Welcome K2 Team.
Dear K2 Climbers,
We are very sorry to hear about the closure of K2 Climbing and appreciate how difficult this must be for you and your families at this time.
Jemma, your Senior Climbing Coach, has reached out to us to explore options and pathways for you to continue climbing with us, which are presented below.
For those climbers who are already part of the K2 team
We would like to extend an invitation to explore opportunities we have within our Development Squad at High Sports Brighton for ages 12 to 17.
Open Training Session
These will take place on Tuesday 24th and Thursday 26th of February, running from 6pm to 8pm.
One session will be bouldering focused and the other rope focused and the cost is £19 each.
Places for these open training sessions must be booked in advance by emailing us on coaching@volume1climbing.co.uk, as we are unable to accept drop-ins on the day.
Our Coaching Style
On Tuesday 24th, we would like to invite climbers and parents or guardians to arrive at 5pm for a short 45-minute presentation covering the ethos and our coaching style, as well as an opportunity to find out more about the expectations and selection process for the Development Squad and Junior Team. There will also be an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
Commitment and Cost
The Development Squad requires a commitment of two sessions per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays and is the pathway towards our Junior Team.
The cost for the programme is £152 per month.
This includes coaching, unlimited entry at both sites and 20% discount at our climbing shop.
Selection Criteria
Can be found here.
Outside of the 12-17 age range?
You are very welcome to get in touch with us at coaching@volume1climbing.co.uk and we will try and advise you on a case-by-case basis.
More interested in our availability at Volume 1 Climbing?
Our Volume 1 Development Squad is currently very close to capacity, with just two spaces remaining in our Monday Mini Development Squad (ages 7–10).
We intentionally keep to small group sizes so we can maintain a high standard of coaching and support each young climber as an individual. That said, please do feel free to get in touch with us at coaching@volume1climbing.co.uk and we will be happy to discuss options and advise you on a case-by-case basis.

We are a small, independent climbing community made up of three centres across Sussex and Surrey: Volume 1 in East Grinstead (Bouldering), High Sports in Brighton (Bouldering, Top-rope and Lead Climbing and Auto belays), and Rock Box in Guilford (Auto belays).
-
Across all three sites, our aim is the same. To create welcoming, supportive spaces where people can enjoy climbing, learn, progress, and feel part of something positive. Whether someone is tying in for the first time, training hard, or just climbing for fun, we care about people having a good experience and feeling looked after.
We believe climbing should be accessible, inclusive, and built around good coaching, good routes, and a strong community. We invest in our staff, support young climbers to develop at their own pace, and try to run our centres in a way that is fair and transparent.
-
We are climber-led, family-run, and genuinely care about the people who walk through our doors. For us, it is not just about running climbing walls. It is about building long-term relationships and helping people enjoy climbing for life.
