Junior Team and Development Squad.
Our Junior Team and Development Squad is a dedicated training group for young climbers who are serious about developing their skills, strength, and mentality to climbing. We move beyond general practice and focus on the technical, physical, and strategic elements required for success in competition and in themselves.
Both our Team and Squad are invitational clubs that are usually selected from our Kids Clubs, however if you have a child that is performing at high level that is not on our clubs then please drop an email to coaching@volume1climbing.co.uk to ask about the selection process and criteria.
Team and Squad News
We recentley held our Big Scramble Competition at Volume 1 where many of our team and development squad attended. Below is a report from one of our junior team captains, Oli Wood, about how the day unfolded:
What a day for the Volume one team! It was a brilliant two days over the weekend with great performances from all of our athletes!
Saturday was the under 16’s day and we had some solid performances. In the 8-12 boys category, we had 49 competitors and the mini team absolutely crushed it! We had William coming 3rd, and he said that it was a “Fun competition, super solid climbs. The atmosphere was really nice as well” We also had Quinn who placed 15th, who said “It was really quite fun, everyone had grades that they could climb. Everyone had a chance for fun” His proudest achievement during the competition was flashing both the blue and the green on the slab.
In the 8-12 girls category, there were a total of 29 competitors and we had Evie who came 3rd, who said the competition was “emotional, happy and fun!” Her proudest achievement was trying super hard on a climb again and again and finally doing it. Coming 4th and 5th we have the dynamic sibling duo of Anthia and Danae. Anthia said “The Big Scramble was really fun! There were lots of tears though, I really liked the variety in climbs and there were a lot to pick from” Her proudest moment was doing a big mantle on the prow. In the 13-16 boys, we had Daniel who came 6th out of 32 competitors.
Sunday was the senior day and we had some solid results. In the female open category, we had Josie make the finals, along with Mia and Lucy coming 9th and 10th respectively! Josie said that she really enjoyed the routes and especially the format, and her favourite moment of the comp was getting number 50 done! In the male open, we had John make the finals, along with Oli coming 7th. Lower down, we have Seth who came 21st! We had some really solid results from our senior team, the male open had 66 competitors and the female open had 23, so the junior team had some solid coverage of the upper placements!
Overall, the Volume One climbing team absolutely crushed it at the Big Scramble, with both the senior and mini team covering the upper echelon of the categories! They all really enjoyed the competition, especially the routes set.
