Junior Competency Test

OVERVIEW
Unsupervised climbing at Volume 1 is usually only allowed for experienced climbers over 16. However, if you are aged between 14 and 16* then you may book a Junior Competency Test, which will assess if you are competent, mature and respectful enough to use the centre unsupervised.
This test will cover all safety rules and your ability to adhere to these at all times when using the centre.
To book on to this course we advise that you meet one of the following criteria:
- Attended our Kids Club for one term
- Completed our Bouldering Induction
- Have prior experience bouldering at another centre
If you are unsure if you are ready to take the competency test then please talk to a member of staff prior to booking.
Booking this test does not guarantee that you will pass, however those that are unsuccessful will be advised by the assessor on what would be required to bring them up to the necessary level to retake the test.
It is also important to understand that once passed, failure to use the centre safely will result in the removal of this privilege and you will have to retake the test or receive further instruction to continue to climb unsupervised.
*Special consideration will be given to juniors aged 12+ who are part of a climbing team/squad at another wall, NICAS/NIBAS Level 3 or who have considerable climbing experience. This will be completely at the discretion of management and you must speak to us prior to booking to check if you are eligible.
